The Shoot
We shot at Dylan’s studio on John St. in Toronto, a space that opens up to an incredible rooftop with a view that immediately sets a tone. Alexia, a talented model, had reached out while she was passing through the city, and we carved out a window to shoot on a Thursday evening.
Late April in Toronto always feels like a gamble. I was hoping for something warmer, something that would let us live entirely outside, but the cold held on. We adapted quickly. Instead of forcing it, we leaned into the space. The studio had enough character and texture that it naturally became part of the story, and in the end, the shift indoors worked in our favour.
I shot everything on the Fuji X-T4 using a film recipe Courtney found called Clockwork Neg. It’s built on the Classic Neg simulation, but with a few distinct tweaks that give it a slightly moodier, more cinematic edge. All of these images are straight out of camera JPEGs, which is how I almost always like to work when shooting Fuji—committing to the look in the moment and letting that shape the shoot as it unfolds.
